Meloidogyne: A Root-Knot NematodeRoot knot nematodes are plant parasitic nematodes placed in the genus Meloidogyne. They dwell in the soil especially of the regions where hot climates and short winters are present. About 2000 plants are infected by these root knot nematodes every year resulting in global loss of about 5% on commercial basis. The larvae of these nematodes penetrate the roots of the plants and form root knot galls which deprive the whole plant from photosynthesis as well as nutrients.
